Carpool Matchmaking App Case Study
Timeline
November - December 2022 (6 weeks).
My Role
This was a group school project with 6 members but, I designed the entire mobile prototype individually.
PROBLEM
Current carpooling apps are unsafe and not trustworthy for students to use. There are no carpooling apps that exist which allow people to form meaningful relationships.
As university students in a carpooling town we realized that there is a lack of reliable transportation methods for people to commute to class. We discussed various solutions on how to eliminate the disconnect and bring people together.
THE SOLUTION
Preference Quiz to match students
Built in Preference Quiz
Required step in sign up process
Matches people based on similar answers (ie. 92% match)
Increases likelihood of connection and engagement
Safety
Ability to add multiple emergency contacts
Emergency contacts easily accessible in an active trip
Drivers license upload required to verify accurate age is entered in sign up
Immersive Home Page
Ability to view trips completed and new matches for any month
Easily viewable recent trips to re-book
Ability to filter search based on different preferences
75% of our interviewees said that they wished there was a way they could connect/reach out to more people in their program to plan rides.
USER INTERVIEWS
We conducted interviews with 8 people in our program to find out more about their experiences with commuting to class and how their daily lives could be enhanced.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
How do you get to class?
What is the most difficult part of your commute? What is your favourite part?
Tell me about a time where you wish you connected with a peer.
What would you change about the carpool process?
THE UNIVERSITY STUDENT PERSONA
IMPROVEMENTS
Based on various feedback from peers, I continually iterated and improved my designs over the span of the 4 weeks that I was prototyping for.
Enhancement of Bottom Navigation
Based on user feedback, increasing the size of the bottom icons, and adding clearer indication on the current page seemed to be a better fit
Allowed for easier visibility
Major Design Improvements
Addition of a Breadcrumb
Based on user feedback it was suggested to add a progress bar for users
Users felt more informed with this addition
